Slanted Hemming Stitches. This is also called a felled hem. If the material holds a crease, this type of narrow hem may be turned and pressed with a warm iron. Basting will not be needed then. 2. Hand-Run Hem. This hem, made with beautifully even stitches, is used for fine hand- made articles. For long hems of this kind the running stitches are made with gathering stitches by filling the needle and then pushing the material back on the thread without pull- ing the needle out. 3.
